He took that event personally. He knew that what he was doing in Afghanistan was in response to 9/11, and he fully supported that. — Adena Rollins, childhood friend
He once told longtime friend Rene Bayardo that he was inside a tank on Army maneuvers when it unexpectedly rolled over. Everyone scrambled out, unhurt.
"That's hard to do -- roll a tank -- but it seemed to amuse him. It fit with his personality. He liked to push the envelope," said Bayardo, 26, of Falls Church, Va.

There is more to that story. I served in B 1-7 with Vic. It was Operation Intrinsic Action 97-01 in Kuwait. The Bradley had rolled forward and was resting on the drivers hatch. When they finished the rollover drill they found that the driver was still inside.

Vic climbed back up into the track to clear the hellhole (thats the small area between the turret and the hull inside the Bradley) and helped pull the driver up and out.

He was a good guy and I'm proud to have served with him. He will not be forgotten.
