Evil Nurses

California's Board of Registered Nursing has discovered that some 3,500 of its nurses have been punished for misconduct by other states — hundreds even had their licenses revoked — while maintaining clean licenses in California.

As many as 2,000 of these nurses now will face discipline in California, officials estimate. That's more registered nurses than the state has sanctioned in the last four years combined.
The board's discovery was prompted by a Times/ProPublica investigation last year that found hundreds of instances in which California nurses had been sanctioned elsewhere for sexual abuse, neglect, rampant drug use and criminality but could work freely in California.
Flo Nightingale? Methinks not:
        Marci Nablo, who surrendered her Florida nursing license in 2007 after admitting that she stole the painkiller Fentanyl from patients' pain pumps, replaced it with saline and injected the drug under her tongue. She also was accused of paying a hospital janitor for urine and hiding it in her bra so she could pass a drug test. After she stole drugs in Pennsylvania, her license in that state was suspended in 2008.
        Karen Vivian, whose license was suspended by Nebraska in 2008 after she made nine medication errors, including putting ear drops into a patient's eye. A mental health exam found that she had bipolar disorder that "made her vulnerable in the work environment," board records said. A year later, she also surrendered her Minnesota license.
        Gregory Ashmore, [male nurse alert] whose Tennessee license was revoked in 2002 after he engaged in sexual intercourse with a patient at the mental health facility where he worked.

Tethered To The State -- Mark Levin

You know I saw Mark Levin at the Reagan Library a few weeks ago. March 5th, I think. Hey, sure it was a Friday evening, but F. Lee was there, he does not come out of the underground bunker that often, and Jew or Christian, some weeks you just have to break Shabbat.

At one point in his learned and somber speech, Levin interrupted himself to say "I bet you thought I was going to get up here and rant and rave." We all laughed. "Well, I may yet do that," he added, to our cheers. He never did, not really, rave or rant. Damn.

He did say, clearly moved to be there -- as most of us are every time we visit:
"The Reagan Library...this is a spiritual place."
It surely is.
He also said:
"Remember, liberty and property are inseparable."
"Plunder is the business of the statist."
"Their purpose is to tether the individual to the state."
Couldn't help but think of Mr. Levin last night as I watched the results of the creepy, statist, plundering Congress voting to tether us all to their vile vision of the state, tether us cradle to grave -- though they're shy neither about killing us before we reach the cradle nor hurrying us along toward the grave once we're no longer cost-effective.

Some'o'my friends are truly pleased with this whole fool thing, but mostly it's those who run on feelers rather than disciplined thought. The duped dopes don't even notice the ankle braceleting that's coming their way.

I normally don't speak up during attendance at events such as Mark Levin's speech, but I would have that night. Alas, I never got a microphone or I would have asked him to say "Get off of my mike, ya big dope!" That would have been frosting on the cake.
Thank you, Mrs. Reagan; and thanks Mr. Levin.

Next Up: Bread and Circuses! What? I don't have a right to various boutique breads and a cirque or two?

Flu Shot Obamacare

Yeah I get the seasonal flu shot every year. My doc says "Stop on by the office and we'll give you one. No charge, no appointment necessary." He says that every year. Costs a little in my coveted time to get over there but saves me twenty-five bucks. Couldn't get over there this year so thought I'd pay for one at work. Then our work Nurse cancelled the shots -- but she emailed me with a place that would be giving them for free on a Saturday a few weeks ago. Went out there early, planning to take the shot. The line -- an hour before they were set to open -- was four blocks long, three folks wide, and I had no desire to line up with the concerned, early, aged, blessed masses so I went out for breakfast instead.

Later work Nurse rescheduled the office space shots and I forked over my twenty-five bucks, got the shot. Made me a little feverish this year, sore-throated, but so what? I don't much like real flu anymore. When I was a kid back in the Northern Interior and prone to the aching tonsils, Mom would bring me hot chocolate when I was flued in, tomato soup in bed for lunch, a stack of books but no tv allowed; but she won't do that for me anymore, so I'd rather stay healthy.

One thing leading to 'nother, I was thinking about Fr. Neuhous this morning, may he rest in peace, and went over to First Things and saw their blogs and started poking around and there's Jim Hoft with a link to great pics of poor cheddarheads waiting in the rain for their flu shots. That Wisconsin line looks just like the line out here in LaLaLand.

The future's looking bright but the present is pretty dreary; hope and change surely got ugly fastly.
